Rupert played Luciana in an all-male production of The Comedy of Errors at the Shakespeare Festival Neuss in Germany. I assume it was this production in July 2004, as we’ve heard separately that he was in a production of this play for Wild Thyme Productions in 2004. According to his CV, the director was Stephen Jameson.
The all-male cast wouldn’t have helped with all the mistaken identities! Seriously, though, I see they also did an all-female Hamlet, which must have been extraordinary.
This is one of the plays listed on Rupert’s CV from when he was studying with LAMDA. It is a musical, with book and lyrics by John Dempsey and music by Dana P Rowe, that premiered at the Donmar Warehouse, London in 1997 (Wikipedia).
Rupert played the character Cal Chandler, with directors Anne Durham and Stephen Jameson.

I found this entry on broadwayworld.com, and Rupert verified it was true when I asked him in London after a Dear Evan Hansen show.
Rupert was one of six vocalists in a production of Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris at the Landor Theatre (over the Landor pub) in Clapham, London.
The show ran from 25 March to 17 April 2004, as part of the London Fringe.
While broadwayworld.com lists the production as also touring to the Southport Arts Centre, and Unity Theatre in Liverpool, Rupert says they were different productions, and he was only involved in the London show.

The play was written by Anthony Neilson, and was ‘originally workshopped with a group of students at LAMDA in 2002’ – golly gosh! – before being re-written and produced for the Edinburgh Festival in 2004 (Wikipedia).
Rupert’s character was Nurse, and the director was the writer Anthony Nielson.

This appears to be Rupert’s first professional role, but the details are a bit muddled and/or lost in the mists of time.
Rupert’s official CV has him playing Mr Smith in The Rose and the Ring at the King’s Head Theatre, directed by Lucy Skilbeck. There are other citations mentioning the King’s Head Theatre as well.
However, the production actually seems to have been at the Hen and Chickens Theatre Bar. (Unless it was staged at both, of course!)
